The roadsides turn blue
Spring is the headliner. Mild days, green hills, and a few short weeks when bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush set the roadsides on fire. It’s also the busiest season — book lodging and any reserved swimming holes or park passes well ahead.

Find the cold water
Summer is hot, and the Hill Country answer is water. Spring-fed rivers and swimming holes stay cool through the worst of it, roadside stands sell peaches by the basket, and the dance halls come alive after dark. Plan outdoor things for morning and evening.

Harvest & golden light

Lights & long views
Winter is the quiet season, and that’s the appeal: thinner crowds, cozy tasting rooms, and the bare limestone hills showing their shape. December lights up Johnson City and Marble Falls, and the cold, clear nights are some of the best for stargazing.
