A spring-fed swimming hole under giant bald cypress, with rope swings and a grassy bank. Swim season runs daily May 1 through Labor Day plus September weekends, and every pass is sold online in advance — nothing at the gate.

The place
Wimberley sits where Cypress Creek meets the Blanco River, in a pocket of the Hill Country known for clear water and a creative streak. The town square is full of galleries, studios, and shops, and the first Saturday of the month brings Wimberley Market Days, one of the largest open-air markets in Texas.
The water is still the main event, but it comes with an asterisk now. Blue Hole Regional Park swims all summer by online pass. Jacob’s Well, the famous artesian spring up the road, has been closed to swimming since June 2022 while the aquifer that feeds it recovers — the natural area around it is open for hiking, free, no reservation.

How to spend your time
Jacob’s Well Natural Area
The mouth of one of the longest underwater cave systems in Texas. Swimming has been cancelled since June 2022 after drought and groundwater pumping dropped the spring’s flow; the natural area stays open 8 a.m.–6 p.m. for hiking, birding, and looking straight down into that impossible blue.
The square & Market Days
Galleries, glassblowers, and boutiques ring the square; the first Saturday of each month, March through December, Lions Field fills with 490-plus booths. Admission is free, parking is $5.
